WIPFW Free Firewall For Windows
If you need a free and easy to use firewall for Windows, you can try WIPFW. WIPFW is a port from FreeBSD IPFW. You can download it for free from Source Forge website at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/wipfw
To install WIPFW you need to download two files, one is the WIPFW firewall and one is the GUI Frontend.
Installing Squid Cache for Windows
Linux users mostly already know Squid proxy server as the best and most used proxy server. As on my previous post “Bandwidth Shaping Using Squid Cache and WIPFW” I need a free proxy server for my windows server. I found SquidNT which is ported from its Linux version by Guido Serassio.
You can download SquidNT from Acme Consulting’s website or here. If you want to do bandwidth shaping then you must download SquidNT with Delay Pool version. On this installation guide, I use the Delay Pool version as I want to do bandwidth shaping.
Bandwidth Shaping Using Squid Cache and WIPFW
It’s been a few times I’m trying to find free proxy server and firewall for windows server on my office, but I haven’t found any luck until 3 days ago.
I have been stressed by colleagues that running bittorrent download or downloading big files using download manager in the office hours. Both torrent and download manager sucks all the bandwidth and causing other user nearly can’t even browse the web.
Yahoo Web Based Messenger
I check Yahoo's website today and click on Messenger link. They are introducing the new Yahoo! Messenger for the web. I already tried it and quite impressed with its features.
The interface is very good and has almost the same look and feel with the windows application Yahoo! Messenger. It also can show emoticons, show status messages, show message if the chat partner is typing messages. It will play a sound if your chat partners send you a message.
Synaptics TouchPad Scrolling Problem in Firefox Browser
I'm having problem with the touchpad on my notebook Compaq Presario V2000, it doesn't functioning at all when I use Firefox browser. The touchpad also can't do scrolling in Thunderbird email client. It seems the touchpad doesn't work in Mozilla's products.
I don't know what the cause of this problem. The touchpad works well in Windows Explorer and other applications. For some time I didn't mind about this problem as I didn't use Firefox or Thunderbird as often as nowadays.
Hard Resetting O2 XPhone II
Today I do a hard reset on my O2 XPhone II. I do the hard reset because I feel that my smartphone was running so slow and having problem with the keypad when I type SMS.
Below are the steps to do a hard reset on O2 XPhone II:
- Turn off your smartphone
- While pressing both softkeys (right and left) press the power key for 1.5 seconds (timing is important)
- If you do it correctly you’ll see a black screen with a message to press ‘0’ to continue the hard reset
- Press ‘0’ and wait the hard reset to finish restoring the settings of your XPhone II to its factory default
- Finish
PS: be sure to backup all your data (contacts, sms, emails, etc.) before you do a hard reset as all data will be erased!

Domain Name Watch
A couple months ago I was keeping my eye for a domain name that already expired and soon being deleted from the domain name registry. I really want this domain name as I want to use it for my web hosting business - RevTI.com.
I was unlucky that time because the domain name was registered by a company that specialized on registering dropped/deleted/expired domain names. Because this company can watch and register the domain name automatically, of course they can register the domain a couple of minutes after it’s deleted from the registry. That is why I lost the domain, sad..
